Boys and Girls Club, Pasadena
For my Gold Award project I wanted to teach kids the basic techniques of art so they could go on to use these skills to create unique pieces of art personal to themselves. To carry out my project I worked with the Boys & Girls of Pasadena to teach art classes and redecorate the art room. To me, art is not only a form of personal expression but it is also a method of communication, so I tried to make the lessons I taught flexible so the kids could develop their own unique style while also learning the more technical aspects of art.
I ended up creating four lessons, two of which I taught over Google Meet and the other two I provided to the Boys & Girls club for future use. I put all of these lessons in an online shared drive as well as provided art supplies needed to carry them out so the Club could use these lessons even after my project had ended.
I spruced up the Boy’s and Girl’s art room by refurbishing the art tables, getting bulletin boards for kids to hang pieces on, and painting a mural on the door of the art room. Overall, I aimed to make my project’s effects on both the curriculum and the art space long lasting and enriching.
